From the Artistic Director

September 1st, 2019

Welcome to the 2019-2020 season of Les Échos du Pacifique! As we embark on our 47th year of celebrating French roots, language, and culture through choral music, we are very excited to share some of the choir’s upcoming events.

On December 7th at St Lawrence Church in Coquitlam, we will present ’Chantons Noël’, our annual celebration of the Christmas season. This year we are pleased to offer a diverse selection of traditional favourites in French, some in exciting new arrangements, as well as some stunningly beautiful new creations by Claudel Callendar, Oliver Tarney, Kim Andre Arnesen and Ethel McGrath.

In February, we’ll be holding our pub-night fundraiser, with prizes, a raffle, a contest or two, and of course, a performance by the choir and some delicious food. Last year’s event was so much fun, and it got rave reviews from those who attended. Please consider coming out and joining us for a rousing evening in support of the choir! More details on this event will be made available as soon as they are finalized.

In the spring, we’re planning a lovely evening of jazz standards and other favourites, with an emphasis on songs made famous by French artists. Newly commissioned pieces by well known choral arranger Ron Smail, as well as an array of selections, all with a wide range of jazzy moods. Additional information about this concert will be posted here on our website as they become available, so please keep visiting from time to time to get the latests news!

I’m so excited about the growth that the choir has seen in recent years, which has enabled us to expand the range of our repertoire and explore new musical directions. We welcome new members through September and again through January, so if you are interested in sharing your talents in choral singing in a fun and friendly French environment, we’d love to hear from you!
